Pregnant? Call A Doula!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Welcome to my site. Please feel free to look around and learn what a doula is and how I can support you in your birth journey. As a mother, with a birth doula you can feel confident and emotionally supported during your birth. By chosing a doula you are making an investment in your family and birth experience. Having supportive, hands-on, professional doula care when you need it most, is invaluable.

"Embrace your journey to birth."

Doulas are an ancient profession with a new name!

The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and shortly after birth.

Women have been serving other women in childbirth for centuries and have proven that this support from another woman has positive effects on the labor process. Studies have shown that when doulas attend a mother in labor her labor is shorter, has fewer complications, decreased unnecessary medical interventions, babies are healthier, and breastfeed more easily.

According to a meta-analysis of ten randomized trials of continuous doula support completed by the authors of The Doula Book, doula support in labor:

  • Reduces the cesarean rate by 45%
  • Reduces length of labor by 25%
  • Reduces use of oxytocin by 50%
  • Reduces use of pain medication by 31%
  • Reduces the need for forceps by 34%
  • Reduces the request for epidurals by 10-60%.

A Birth Doula

Recognizes birth as a key experience the mother will remember all her life

Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor

Assists the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth

Stays with the woman thought her labor

Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures, an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman get the information she needs to make an informed decision

Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner and her care providers. But does not speak on behalf of the woman.

Perceives her role as nurturing and enhancing of the woman's birth experience

Allows the woman's partner to participate at their own comfort level

I happily serve the Orlando and surrounding areas. My service area is generally within a 1 hour radius of my home. Other areas will be considered on a case by case basis based on availability.
